Russian National Ballet Theatre and Orchestra

A ballet company of more than forty soloists and a full, live orchestra, the Russian National Ballet Theatre and Orchestra was founded in 1999 by Vladimir Moiseev and artistic director Evgeny Amosov. Moiseev, the company’s general director, was a soloist with the Bolshoi Theatre and is the grandson of legendary Russian ballet master Igor Moiseev.

Performing both classical and modern ballet, the company employs 55 of the most dedicated and talented dancers in Russia. Many of the company’s main soloists range in age from 17-25 years old and have already won international recognition as winners of prestigious competitions. Most of the dancers in the company have already danced with other leading ballet companies in the major cities of Russia.

The Russian National Ballet Theatre has toured Europe, the Far East, Australia and the United States with great success and performs regularly in their home city of Moscow. Their U.S. debut tour in 2005 was a highly acclaimed success with performances of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and Adam’s Giselle.

Critics exclaimed their 2005 presentation of Sleeping Beauty as “Dramatically and skillfully superb” with …extraordinary dancing…magnificent scenery and costumes,” and that “Every little movement was exquisite,” (Palm Beach Daily News). They again toured the U.S. in 2007 presenting Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Minkus’ Don Quichote and Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet. 2007’s Sleeping Beauty also earned critics’ applause. The Manhattan Mercury News remarked that “…the stunning leaps… blew them away, drawing gasps and spontaneous applause.” This is the company’s second year performing with Wichita Grand Opera.
