Sherrill Milnes coaches WGO Resident Artist Rebecca Robbearts.
WICHITA—Wichita Grand Opera brought one of the most popular and electrifying performers today, baritone Sherrill Milnes, to Wichita. Universally acclaimed as the foremost operatic baritone of his generation, Milnes presented a preview of the opera before WGO’s Don Giovanni audience on October 23, 2004 at 7:30PM. The opera preview took place on the Concert Hall stage and was free to all Don Giovanni ticket holders.
A superstar in every sense, the adulation Sherrill Milnes receives is usually reserved for tenors. Milnes has conquered all of the great opera capitals of the world: Royal Opera, Covent Garden; La Scala, Milan; Berlin’s Deutsche Oper; Paris Opera; Buenos Aires’ famed Teatro Colon; the Liceu in Barcelona; Bavarian State Opera in Munich; Salzburg Festival; Hamburg Opera and Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre. He has appeared with San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago and the opera companies of Pittsburgh, San Diego, Miami and Denver, among others in the United States. At the Metropolitan Opera he has been honored with 16 new productions, seven opening nights, and ten national telecasts, and he also performed at the 25th anniversary gala honoring James Levine.
In addition to the opera preview, Milnes presented master classes and opera seminars before WGO’s Resident and Young Artist Program members on October 22, 2004 from 10:00AM – 12:30PM and October 23, 2004 from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM.
