The mysteries of the Pharaohs beckon in this masterpiece of epic proportions. The Egyptian captain Radames has eyes for the slave Aida, who is really an Ethiopian princess. The drama unfolds as they fall in love. A bevy of international stars brilliantly shine in these dramatic and powerful roles. Prima donna of the Romanian State Opera, Silvia-Sorina Munteanu sings the title role of Aida. Washington’s favorite tenor Michael Hayes returns to Wichita to sing the role of Radames, after his dynamic portrayal of Don Jose in last season’s Carmen. Moldavian mezzo-soprano Lilliana Lavric sings the role of Amneris, Alexander Krounev sings Amonasro, and Ivaylo Dzhurov sings the role of Ramphis. Guiding the distinguished performers in this production are renowned stage director Pavel Gerdjikov and conductor Nayden Todorov. Choreographer is Vanetta Geiger. Choral preparation is by Shayna Leahy and Kristin Ivers. Tabitha Reist Steiner, principal harpist of the Wichita Grand Opera Orchestra, will play the harp solo on stage as part of the cast. WGO choristers will share the stage with the opera Verdi chorus.
The Wichita Grand Opera Resident Artist Rodney Miller, Dean of Fine Arts at Wichita State University, will perform the role of The King of Egypt.
