About the Composer

Federico Cortese – Conductor

From the moment of his debut in 1998, stepping in at short notice to conduct in place of an ailing Seiji Ozawa with the Boston Symphony, Federico Cortese's work as a Conductor was widely praised thoughout the world. Other major appointments have included the Spoleto Festival in Italy, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Sydney Symphony, Oslo Philharmonic, and Boston Lyric Opera. 

 

Marco Pelle – Stage Director and Choreographer

Born in Italy, Marco Pelle started his training in Vicenza, It, before moving to Monaco, Montecarlo to continue the training at the Academie de Danse Classique Grace Kelly under marika Besobrasova. As a choreographer he has worked extensively in Opera, choreographing productions such as Aida in Lebanon at Baalbeck Festival for the Royal Family of Jordany. He's creating two new works for the New York Theatre Ballet, as resident choreographer of the company. Mr. Pelle wrote and directed his first play Princes and Principles at Stanislavski Theatre in Washington DC. He also choreographed productions of Rigoletto and Faust for Detroit Opera House.

 

David Camp – Canio

Now in his second year as a WGO Resident Artist, the Kansas native began singing solos in church at the age of 9; studied music at both Friends University and Oklahoma University; and was the featured soloist with the Pete Rice Evangelistic Association Crusades performing in stadiums and concert halls in seven foreign countries. 

 

Tiziana Bellavista – Nedda

She was born in Polermo, Italy, and studied Voice at the Music Conservatory Bellini in Polermo. She is a winner of the international Verdi Voice Competition in Busseto, and a competition in San Remo. She is already at home on many stages in Germany and Italy, and has worked with famous directors such as Giancarlo Del Monaco, Gustav Kuhn and Gilbert Deflo. Among her roles are Mimi in La Boheme, Tosca in Tosca, Liu in Tourandot and Manon in Manon Lescaut. She is making her American debut with the Wichita Grand Opera.

 

William Stuckey – Tonio

Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, William Andrew Stuckey's performances have been acclaimed for their visceral power and beauty. Prior to a recent success as Tonio in Opera Delaware’s production of I Pagliacci, he made his debut with the Palm Beach Opera as Peter in Hansel and Gretel. He has performed Germont in La Traviata at the Santa Fe and Delaware Operas, Conte di Luna in Sarasota Opera's acclaimed production of Il Trovatore, and created leading roles with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Washington National Opera, Augusta Opera, Toledo Opera, and Opera Roanoke.

 

Gustavo Ahualli – Silvio

The young Argentnean baritone Gustavo Antonio Ahualli was born in San Miguel de Tucuman, Argentina. In 1998, he obtained his Maestria de Canto from the Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colon. Mr. Ahualli made his operatic debut in 1996, as Papageno in Die zauberflote at the Teatro San Martin. Since then, he as sung leading roles in La Traviata, Don Carlo, Lucia di Lammermoor, Don Pasquale, La Favorita, Le Nozze di Figaro, Cosi fan tutte, La Boheme, Turandot, and Carmen among many others. Next season will find Mr. Ahualli between Italy, France, and USA beginning with productions of La Boheme and Werther.

 

Richard Novak – Beppe

He has performed with the University of Louisiana-Monroe, San Antonio Symphony, and Stephen F. Austin State University. He is the winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and has performed the roles of Alfredo, Tamino, and Rodolfo. Mr. Novak has also just won the Metropolitan Opera Regional Competition. He made his WGO debut in the role Normano in Lucia di Lammermoor.
