Development Director

Job Field: Sales/Marketing

Description: Available: Immediately
The Director of Development is responsible and accountable for planning, implementing, and managing all fundraising efforts in order to achieve the contributed income goals of Wichita Grand Opera. S/he provides leadership and strategic direction to efforts to secure annual fund gifts, sponsorships, government grants, and special event underwriting, as well as additional funding for endowment and capital projects. S/he represents the Company to the community in the cultivation of prospects and donors. S/he establishes and maintains positive and productive relationships with the local business and foundation community on behalf of the Wichita Grand Opera. The Director of Development is a member of the senior management team and reports to the General Director.

Major Duties

• Coordinate, develop and submit foundation, corporate, and government grant proposals and solicitations
• Act as contact for corporate, foundation, and government funding
• Maintain database/schedule of annual institutional and individual giving
• Send all donation acknowledgement receipts
• Coordinate letters and mailing lists for fundraising appeal mailings
• Assist in development of appeal materials with General Director and Marketing
• Maintain database of all donor records
• Work with General Director for all development events, including soirees and annual gala
• Maintain updated info/research within Development department and field
• Provide support to the Development Committee of the Board and ensure that members have information and materials they need to be effective in their work on behalf of Wichita Grand Opera.
• Additional tasks as assigned

Qualifications

Two to three years successful experience in a senior development position with a not-for profit organization.
Bachelor's Degree in English, Communication, Arts Administration, or related field. Experience in music/opera and non-profits preferable.
Experience in the design and implementation of annual fund and major gift campaigns, endowment campaigns, planned giving programs, and special project fundraising efforts.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Good organizational skills.
Good research skills/methods.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
Knowledge and experience in researching and submitting corporate, foundation, and government grants.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Marketing Director

Description: Reporting directly to General Director Parvan Bakardiev, the Director of Marketing develops, plans and directs all subscription and single ticket campaigns, advertising, promotions, special events, public relations, communications, and group and corporate marketing initiatives.
 
Major Duties:

Design, facilitate, and implement the annual marketing plan.

Plan and administer WGO's Marketing Operations budget.

Developing and maintaining relationships with the press.

Write and develop content for various publications such as performance programs, newsletters, sales copy, e-blasts, and communiqués for assorted mailings.

Create promotional appearances for WGO's artists and personalities, and assist with artists' needs and maintenance during public appearances.

Create, generate and maintain company appearance opportunities throughout the state to support earned and contributed revenue goals.

Organize and implement patron relations, including patron satisfaction surveys, patron development activities, and special events.

Develop and administer marketing database which includes patron and prospect information, mailing list applications, access to financial reports, etc.

Oversee WGO's electronic marketing efforts, including supervision of Web site design and maintenance.

Act as community liaison for general public and opera's stakeholders.

Develop and implement ideas with box office and development staff to maximize revenues and donations.

Manage company image at events and theater.

 
Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or related field.

3-5 years experience in Marketing/Public Relations, and 2 years in a management position.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent strategic planning, staff development, and relationship building skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Good organizational skills.

Good research skills/methods.

Ability to multi-task and prioritize.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Helpful but not essential skills include a working knowledge of design, printing, and database management principles.
