Jose Lopez

Mexican American tenor, José López, is in his senior year of the undergraduate music education program at Wichita State University. Raised in Wichita, KS, José received a strong vocal and instrumental education from Wichita Public Schools. As a college freshman, José began studying voice with the esteemed mezzo-soprano Dr. Pina Mozzani. José now continues his studies with acclaimed mezzo-soprano Dr. Hilary Grace Taylor. After graduation, José hopes to give back to his community by teaching vocal music at Wichita Public Schools while remaining active in Wichita’s vocal music scene.
               Recent accolades include being a semifinalist in the 2024 West Central NATS Student Auditions and a finalist in Wichita State’s Concerto-Aria Competition. Other roles include Don Curzio in W.A. Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Assan in Gian Carlo Menotti’s The Consul, and Mr. Splinters in Aaron Copland’s The Tender Land, all with WSU Opera. When he’s not singing, José can be found listening to some Pavarotti, mowing lawns, or admiring photos of his niece and nephew. This is José’s professional debut.
